Dr Jenny Doust

Womens Health General Practice GP Toowong

Welcome Dr Jenny doust, starting in mid JUNE 2026

Dr Doust graduated from Flinders University in Adelaide in 1993. She started working as a general practitioner in 1995, and worked part-time while raising two very active boys. She received her Fellowship from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2003.

Dr Doust moved to Queensland in 2001. The reason for the move was to enrol in a PhD in decision-making in general practice at the University of Queensland. Her PhD and her subsequent research training led to her representing general practice on several high-level decision-making committees in Australia, such as the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (which decides which drugs are funded by the Australian government) and the Medicare Services Advisory Committee (which decides which tests and interventions are funded by the Australian government).

Dr Doust is a Clinical Professorial Research Fellow at the University of Queensland’s Australian Women and Girls’ Health Research Centre. She leads a research program examining ways to improve the management of heavy menstrual bleeding (funded by the HCF Research Foundation) and how sex and gender are considered in disease definitions (funded by the Brocher Foundation). She is also involved in many other studies of women’s health, mostly funded by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council and the Medical Research Futures Fund, which includes work on polycystic ovary syndrome (now termed polyendocrine metabolic ovary syndrome), endometriosis, perimenopause, menopause and preconception care.

Dr Doust’s favourite way to spend her time is with her family, and she is especially proud of her grandchildren. Her happy place is a ballet studio. She doesn’t jump very high anymore, but she still goes to classes once or twice a week and hopes to keep doing so forever.
